we’re alive

Chillin’ in a holiday inn… with free wifi. I’m not sure we’ll upload anything tonight.

We had a great time in Albuqurque. They take their southwestern breakfast seriously.

Fritz had a run in with the Texas Highway Patrol. I got it on video. I’m not sure what else to say about that except that Fritz was amazed and loved it.

Cadillac Ranch was really sad. It was only five Caddies sticking out of the ground. We didn’t feel the need to stop, but it made a great postcard.

There were amazing amounts of smog in Amarillo.

Oklahoma is only great because I can sing the theme from Oklahoma over and over again and make Fritz think I’m completely insane.

Changing time zones is really unsettling, but we’re getting the hang of it. We’ll try to upload some of the tons of footage we have recorded soon… In the meantime keep your eyes on our flickr!

Boba Fat vs Boba Tea

Friday, February 13th, 2009

Right now Fritz & I are shipping everything I own because Uhaul was a bust.  More on that later.  And it’s a safe bet that I’m drinking Boba Tea… again.  Fritz is going to get just as addicted to In N Out milkshakes if we’re not careful.  He was really confused by the Boba tea though, as evidenced below.  Love to our fans on the Valentine’s day pre-game… may Friday the 13th be luckier for us in our adventure!

Camiseteria T-Shirts

Thursday, February 12th, 2009

Finally we’re able to upload some of the videos and photos we’ve been taking these last 2 days. This is the first sample - we went to the post office to pick up our Camiseteria package. So that means we’ll be driving to the Grand Canyon wearing cool exquisite t-shirts, thanks to our sponsors camiseteria.com

Friends,

I’m in LA with Gillian. After 23 hours in transit, and loads of good airplane food from Virgin I got safe and sound in Schwarzenegger’s state. We went to Santa Monica and I saw the bus from Speed. We watched 24 after a great dinner at Kim and Paul’s place and spent the night in this cozy little ho(s)tel. Today we`ll be going to Vegas… Life is good :)

oh the places!

Sunday, February 8th, 2009

Fritz is already in transit and I’m really getting excited now.  I hope he’s sleeping on the bus, because we have plans when we get to LA.  I stopped by the place we’re staying tomorrow night and… it’s interesting.  But it should be fine :)  Can’t be too choosy!

We seriously re-evaluated the trip route, mainly because we will be pulling a small trailer with a Hyundai Accent, and tackling the Colorado Rockies in winter seems like an awful idea under those circumstances.  So we’re heading south to Flagstaff and heading east from there.  I’m feeling more confident that we’ll be able to get to New York quickly now.

If you’re in Albuquerque, Oklahoma City and/or Tulsa, or Chicago and you want to host us or have a cup of coffee don’t be shy!  We’ll also be in Kansas City and Cleveland :)

One more mix tape + a hundred CDs

Saturday, February 7th, 2009

Hello friends,

my incredibly talented brother has sent us a mixtape! It’s called Caterpillar tracks and it’s available for immediate download - what are you waiting for? Also, Nebraskapism is finally on, for your listening pleasure. It’s music for your weekend - and for our 10-or-so-day-long road trip….

An Escapism Soundscape

Speaking of our road trip - that’s what it’s all about isn’t it? - a fellow freecycler Sarah just gave us a 100 CDs for the road! That’s remarkable, really. Not only that, her musical taste is REAL GOOD. That basically means that we won’t have to listen to Billy Ray Cyrus,  Shania Twain or Gretchen Wilson - yay! Everybody’s worried about snow blizards, maps, directions… and mold! I wasn’t worried about being infected with mold, but with american country music! I swear to god that if I come home wistling to Vanessa Carlton I will sell my Smiths collection - and make a small fortune.

So we’ve got New Order’s Technique, Primal Scream’s Screamadelica and all Blur’s albums, amongst other classic records. It’s gonna be brillant and I can’t wait.

I sold the microwave! To a rusty gentleman in a temporary stay complex.

I’m in LA. Now all I have to do is cool my heels, plan the route, and wait for Fritz to get here! It looks like my original route is the worst possible choice, going through many mountain ranges. The best options are: north through Salt Lake and Wyoming on HWY 80 OR south past the Grand Canyon, Albequerque, and then up through Tulsa Oklahoma.  I’m leaning towards the second option, partly because its warmer, and partly because I’ve always made fun of Tulsa and I owe it an apology.  Also, it would be nice to show Fritz the Grand Canyon!

It seems that the ear problem is a mysterious low grade infection not so mysterious histamine reaction that appeared when I went back in my place. Hmm… and the mold is totally harmless, right? This is good news :)

Poison

Friday, February 6th, 2009

It’s 6am here and I’m up again.  The plan was to go back inside the condo this morning but… it’s not going to happen, for two reasons.  1, I have to de-spore everything in the storage unit so I can put the cleaned clothes in there and 2, my ear is still swollen.

You see, the “hazmat” suit didn’t really work all that well.  The resipirator helped alot, and the goggles did for a short while.  I didn’t notice about the ear until later…

I’m trying to find a place to stay tonight so I can go back inside the condo of doom tomorrow.  But it did make me think… My things are maybe worth $2000 total.  If I have to leave them behind, I will.

I miss Fritz.  We’ve been busy and on opposite schedules. I’m listening to the Nebraskapism mix… and I’ve got to say it’s Nebraskalicious… whatever that means :) You guys are lucky… Fritz has really outdone himself this time.  It will be up soon!

One more program on Radio LAtoNY | 3 Days to Go!!!

Thursday, February 5th, 2009

Friends and RSS Subscribers :)

I’m leaving to Los Angeles in 72 hours, to meet my beloved girlfriend. It’s going to be a long trip - 6 hours from Mighty Manchester in the glorious north-west of England to busy and hollow London, plus a few hours checking in and an 11-hour direct flight - so any non-chemical suggestions on how to sleep on planes are very welcome, since I’m not used to doing it. Last year I took 17 planes - including 3 long distance - and I didn’t sleep at all.
I have to admit though that I don’t try hard enough. Sure, the seats are never comfortable - never - but even after having been on more than a hundred flights in my life I still get excited about the whole thing. I feel like I have a new office, and the stewardesses are my secretaries, responding to the touch of a button - can I have a glass of water please, cheers - the small screen displaying the route and all sorts of useless information, like altitude and speed, is my computer and I’m always excited to know what food they’ll serve - like discovering the new restaurants on this ‘new office’ vicinity. I seldom talk to the people around me, it makes my neck hurt, since the seats were not made for socializing. It doesn’t contribute much to my ‘new office’ fantasy either. I’m also very keen on trying to get the best of the in-flight programming - like the movies, radio stations and the 8-bit games they sometimes provide. I try to figure out a way to see all the films, even the ones I’m remotely interested - but sometimes I just can’t make it.
I always, always go to the restroom, even without having to. I like to close the door and see if people are reading the instructions written on the sink, like please leave it clean for the next passenger. I also love to depressurize the tiny W.C. by flushing the toilet - I love the whole thing, the noise, the strength, it mesmerises me.
So one of the things I’ll do to avoid all this excitement is to listen to the new program we have on our Radio LAtoNY section, Nebraskapism, a chill out mix produced by yours truly. It’s relaxing - for some - and it’s probably better than the radio channels. Plus I’ll be able to not think about movies or the efficiency of my secretaries - if only that were my real new office, I’d fire a few of those pretty faces!
So stay tuned, I shall publish this new mix within the next days (as I’m finishing a supercool cover art).
Peace
Fritz
